Farmstead Cider is hard cider hand made in Jackson Hole from local Wyoming and Rocky Mountain apples. We started out on a mission to protect bears from potentially deadly human conflict and ended up starting a cidery! The apples in our community have historically drawn many grizzly bears from Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Now we make cider from those tempting apples, helping save the bears from themselves.
The ancient glacial soils, extreme sun, and cool nights all combine to make Wyoming a fantastic place to grow, harvest, and taste unique cider apple varieties including high-tannin crab apples. We are rediscovering forgotten 150+ year old apple trees, planting new orchards in places where growing apples was thought to be impossible, and teaching people about high altitude farming along the way. Try one of our award-winning wild fermented dry hard ciders today!
Farmstead Cider is also the first commercial cidery in Wyoming in over 100 years. We got started by working to remove apples from trees that were attracting wildlife into neighborhoods around Jackson Hole. We quickly discovered an entire urban orchard in our own backyard, and the hardy apples we found are of incredible quality and diversity. Now we turn those waste apple into delicious, hand-pressed hard cider!
Small Batch Hard Cider
What makes Farmstead Cider so special is our apples! The high altitude and cold winters of Jackson Hole and the rest of Wyoming create seriously powerful cider apples. We also take a small-batch approach to cider-making: wild fermenting slowly at cold temperatures and allowing our ciders to age in oak barrels, which mellows out the high acidity and tannins of crab apples. The result is a hard cider that’s smooth, dry, and full of flavor.
